My Rain Room

April 03, 2017

Line storm dreams

 of rooftop
romance
and modest kisses
lending themselves
to tar paper trysts
and mouthfuls
of disappointment

Of a place
a better room
where the walls
are hung
long
with art
and old
histories
 not shared

Family and love
neatly tucked away
in closet corners
I scavenge this place
looking for the words
to set me free

the phone trills
startling
unlikely and familiar

I scurry
to collect and hide
evidence
in the event
love
returns
panic
setting in
as I gather
the loose pages
strewn on the floor.

the landlord
goes in
and out
a door
I cannot pass through

instead I dissolve
out my
kitchen window
to the sidewalk
beyond
the grass
 covered
plot

a notion
I used
to know
long forgotten
until
barefooted
I land
full force
into being

I remain
dry
in the middle
of the storm
while life
pours
down
a thousand
blades
of rain
