Jamais deux sans trois*
April 15, 2016
In vino veritas. Anything is Possible
“The vines must suffer for the wine to be good”
dry tour guide words
against the lush,
grape laden vines
jutting out of crags in cracked chalky soil.
I, too appreciate the fruits of suffering.
First
time
Turquoise
womb
floating
face forward
into the sting
climbing
eternal
switch
backs
in the hot still air
camion cheers
descending
down
to disappointment
Second
time
strength
in the familiar
sharp stones
crack-snap
crawl-hop
steep
self talk
special needs
searing
through
to disappointment
Third
time
Alone
in business class
confidence
drinking the words
out of the virile imps mouth
as luscious and potent
as old wine
Good things come in threes
or so I thought
until
the
Sorching
sweltering
laid me out
under the barren
tree
of disappointment
"But Jamais deux sans trois!" I cry
Her words
an icey cool cotton cloth
across my brow
The charm
not found in threes
but in the persistence
of another try.
Encore une fois
“The greatest battle is not physical but psychological. The demons telling us to give up when we push
ourselves to the limit can never be silenced for good. They must always be answered by the quiet, the
steady dignity that simply refuses to give in. Courage. We all suffer. Keep going” Graeme Fife
